Political Parties of Canada

Below are four of the big political parties in Canada.  Remember, these are federal parties, not provincial.

Go to each party’s website and read about their platforms, or what their party is interested in doing if you vote for them.  After summarizing this information, where do you think they fit on the political spectrum and why?  Use evidence from their platforms as support for your choices.  This must be done in the form of a quotation.

You must cite the quotation.  The general rule is you use a parenthesis beside the quotation.  For example:

(Last Name, Year, p. #)

This could look like:

“Social Studies is so fun!” (Hopkin, 2024, p. 25).

Remember, critically think and analyze what you find.  Some questions you could consider (but do not have to, you can also have others)

  • Is this website easy to navigate?
  • How clear/specific was the platform?
  • Visual representation on the website?  Images?  Colours?  Who is represented?  Who is not?

Conservative Party of Canada

Liberal Party of Canada

Green Party of Canada

Canada’s New Democratic Party

Find one niche party (e.g. the Pirate Party) as well!

In note form (that means “point form”), compile all of the information above.  Assignment is due to Teams by the end of class.
